QR code shop
Letting customers scan a tree and get the real price — even while it's still growing.
Trees aren't like other retail products — they keep growing, and so does their price. Jysk Plantesalg needed a way to keep product information accurate on the warehouse floor without constantly reprinting price tags. We built a QR-based scanning app that lets staff generate and print QR labels for each tree, and lets customers scan any tree in-store to instantly see live pricing and product details pulled straight from Shopify.
The Challenge
Jysk Plantesalg sells trees that physically change over time — as they grow, their size, condition, and price change with them. Traditional printed price tags become outdated within weeks, creating a constant manual maintenance burden and risking incorrect pricing on the floor.
The Approach
We built a headless web app on top of Shopify's Storefront API. Employees can generate a unique QR code label for each tree directly from the app and print it to attach to the product. Customers walking through the warehouse scan a tree's QR code to pull live, always-current product information and pricing straight from Shopify — no reprinting required. Customers can also build a personal wishlist of trees as they browse and have it emailed to them, supporting a considered purchase decision rather than an impulse buy.
The Outcome
Jysk Plantesalg can now update prices and product details centrally in Shopify, and those changes are reflected instantly in-store without touching a single physical tag. Staff save time on manual price tag management, and customers get a more informative, self-service shopping experience.
